Season Ends For Clippers on Double Steal in First
Watkins ClippersFor the second time in as many state tournament appearances, the Watkins Clippers were eliminated in a game in which they lost 1-0 and they only got one hit. Last time was in 2007 when they lost a game that took place over two days as they fell to Holdingford, with the only hit a double by Eric Malvin. This year, the loss was to the Winsted Wildcats, with the lone Clipper hit a double by Todd Geislinger.

Winsted scored early in the game when they scored on a double steal with runners on first and third in the bottom of the first. That would be the only run they would need, however, as Bruce Geislinger held the Wildcats down. But Josh Anthony, pitching for the Winsted team, held the Clippers in check until the eighth inning, when the double by Geislinger was hit.

The loss ended the season for the final CVL team still in action. CVL teams now must look forward to the 2010 season. Who will win each division next season and who will represent the CVL in the state tournament in 2010? The season is only eight months away!
