Clippers Beat Princeton; Face Winsted in 2nd Round
Watkins ClippersEntering the State Tournament as the #2 seed from a region can sometimes be a challenge. But it was a challenge that the Watkins Clippers faced head-on as they took care of the Princeton Panthers 5-1 in their opening round game. Bruce Geislinger picked up the win for the Clippers, who took advantage of six Panther errors en route to the victory.

With Watkins the visiting team in the game, they were able to score first in the top of the second inning. Dallas Everson's 2-out double scored David Jonas from first base for the 1-0 lead. The Clippers scored again in the top of the third when Matt Geislinger reached on an error, was bunted to second, and scored on another Princeton error.

The Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded wild pitch. But one run was all they would score in the inning and the game as Bruce Geislinger and Mike Beier combined to hold Princeton off the scoreboard the rest of the game.

The top of the fifth saw the Clippers extend their lead when singles by Matt Geislinger and Eric Malvin combined with two Panther errors to lead to three runs. That was all the scoring that the game would see as the Clippers advanced to round two with the 5-1 victory. That round two match-up will pit the Clippers against the Winsted Wildcats, who reached the state tournament as the #1 seed from Region 7. That game will be on Friday, August 28th at 6:00 pm, again in Arlington.
